I want a rich husband … not!

In a way, I envy women who use men to get what they want. Their lives just seem so … easy! And every once in a while, usually when salaries are late and bills are knocking, I wish I was one of those girls. I ask myself why I don’t just get myself a rich man to cater for my lifestyle. I mean, how hard can it be?

Pretty hard, actually. A rich man might be willing to pay for everything you want and need, but it’s not really the paradise it seems to be. For one thing, you have to be constantly glamorous. As his wife, you represent him, so you need to look good and act right. Plus, nothing is really free, not even a rich husband. And payback can be a hell of a bitch. I’m not even going to think about the Red Room of Pain and things like that.

Red Room of Pain

You’re pretty much signing up to be a Kim Kardashian, which can be hard if you’re not into fashion or make-up or celebrity parties. Or if, like me, you’d rather curl up with a good book than dress up and attend the Oscars. Sure, he can afford masseuses and personal trainers and dieticians and the latest catwalk items, but you still have to work it.

Also *shudder* you might find yourself in situations like this. The millionaire in his seventies divorced his wife. I guess they were still on friendly terms, or maybe she had a really good lawyer, because despite the divorce, they continued living in the same house. After a while, he asked his girlfriend and her twelve-year-old daughter to move in, and asked his ex-wife to become their housekeeper.

I guess he figured she was keeping house anyway, so there’s no reason for her to stop. Or maybe it was his sneaky way of kicking her out. It kinda backfired though, because a judge ordered him to pay his ex half his estate. I suppose the man knew his ex-wife pretty well, since they’d been married for over thirty years. So I don’t understand how you can hurt someone so badly and not realise it.

But then again human beings are funny and relationships are complex. Sometimes we do the most damage to the people we care about the most, and a lot of times, we don’t even know we’re doing it. One thing is for sure. Better to struggle and make your own financial way in life than to rely on someone and have them turn around on you like that. Jeez!
