A short story inspired by an item I heard on BBC Radio. Some soldiers join wars for the cause, but others get conscripted because it’s what you’re meant to do. You finish high school, you turn 18, you join the army. Kids like this don’t know who or what they’re fighting. They just follow orders – it’s what they’re meant to do.
The BBC interviewed kids on both sides of a conflict and asked if their differences were strong enough to kill over. Each kid replied, ‘No, but what else is there to do?’
